My name is Ash Naidoo, a practising Dentist by profession, and I happened upon the wonderful world of rugs early on in 2006. I was born in South Africa and have spent a large portion of my life there. I currently reside in the Netherlands, practising my profession.
Since my very first rug purchase , the visual beauty, perceptual designs and tactile finesse drew me into this wonderful world of carpets. Over the last 17 years, not only has my collection of rugs increased , but I became more aware of the rugs woven in different regions in Iran as well as the different countries each having their own uniqueness and beauty. You often hear the phrase “thunderbolt moment in life”, mine was when I bought my first rug that was woven in Kerman province of Iran. The ‘Mille Fleurs¨ rug, basically a design composed of many flower blossoms, was captivating in its beauty and started me on my journey of kerman rugs.
I used the word journey as my acquired knowledge of kerman rugs was the impetus for driving me forward on this journey and also importantly introducing me to the world of antique kerman rugs. The general consensus of an antique rug being 100+ years old.
